In 1973 Canto A Borinquen invaded the radio stations and record stores of Latin America, especially in Puerto Rico where Miguelito was from. Miguelito was a young boy who was determined to sing and record an album one day. At 11 years old, from a family of 9 brothers, Miguelito left his house every day to shine shoes in the neighbourhood park. When he didn't have customers he would put on a show with his friends, and people started to gather, watch and enjoy the performances.One day an American record producer was travelling to Ponce and heard the young voice of this poor little blonde boy without shoes on his feet. He was so impressed he introduced himself. He was Harvey Averner from Coco records. Harvey didn't speak Spanish and Miguelito didn't speak English. In Christmas 1972, Harvey offered Miguelito a big Christmas present - the chance to record his own album: Miguelito Canto A Borinquen. The album was a big hit in 1973. People went crazy for this new little star and wanted to hear the music and learn more about this talented little boy. In 1973 he even performed at New York's Lincoln Center along with making numerous televison appearances, radio interviews and performing concerts in his home town, Ponce, PR.Sadly, in 1974, at just 12 years old Miguelito was killed. He was hit by a car, in Puerto Rico. This is the little information we have about this promising young talent, whose life ended at the height of his musical career. If you have the chance to buy the album, I guarantee you will enjoy listening to the music of Miguelito. Had he lived, Miguelito would be 47 years old today.

ReplyDeletePor este tiempo del 2020 me encontre con una publicacion de la existencia documentada de que Miguelito el cantante puertoriqueño no murio en un acidente como decian los rumores al parecer fue abandonado por su productor en una malas condiciones economicas y de baja remuneracion por no haver sido el disco de aceptacion comercial.murio en las calles posteriormente popr sobredosis de opiaces a la edad de 18 añops esta bien documentado en la intgernet
